Jaipurkhabar : Does Indian cinema need a renaissance to be more socially productive ?
In an industry where a large section of films have been borrowed, adapted or inspired from the Hollywood (hence an unoriginal copycat name : Bollywood ) we find a surprising lack of quality cinema in India.
In the west, the movies are made on a vast array of subjects - social, political, scientific and artistic.
We, in the 'Bollywood' have simply copied the sexually suggestive, sometimes vulgar, depictions of sex and romance.
We never seem to have gotten beyond it - except of course a few exceptions here and there.
Our cinema, they say, has changed a lot in the past decade. But then why have majority of movies not gone beyond subjects of sex and affairs?
From dancing around the trees to suggestive moves around the bedroom. Is that all of variation we can afford with all the talent that we have at our disposal ?
Do make those teeny romantic movies, by all means, but can we please move on to movies that really inspire people to achieve bigger things in life ?
To be someone better and greater rather than inspired to chase girlfriends and petty physical needs ?
Given the immense reach and effectiveness of this medium of mass communication, it's surprising how little importance and attention it has been given by the people who want to take the nation in the right direction.
Not just entertainment, our movie industry can deliver a lot more.
But instead, they are delivering sleaze, sex and melodrama.
Someday, we shall understand our mistake.
Hope it's sooner than later.
